Presenting Your Best Self to Employers Narrator: Because searching for a new job can be stressful, Social Security's Ticket to Work Program wants to share some steps you can take to make the experience a little easier. This video will cover three main areas of the job search: * Resumes * Interviews * Disability and Your Job Search. Resumes. Your resume is often an employer's first impression of you so it's important to make it a good one. When writing your resume consider these tips: * Highlight your contact information by using a large, clear font. You want to make sure that a hiring manager can easily get in touch with you to set up a job interview. * Remember to include volunteer work. Paid work experience isn't the only way to gain important skills. * And tailor your resume for specific jobs. Spend a few minutes comparing your resume to the responsibilities and qualifications for specific job listings. Interviews. Knowing how to talk about the experience on your resume in a conversation can smooth the interview process. Here are a couple of tips to make a strong impression: * Research the company or business before your interview. * Practice answering questions. This can help you think about how to talk about your experience and skills and show how you'd be a productive addition to the company * Prepare questions to ask. Interviews are your opportunity to get to know the employer and the specifics of the job. Asking relevant questions shows that you have done your homework and have a serious interest in the position. Disability and Your Job Search. * It is your choice to disclose your disability to an employer. However, if you want to request an accommodation, you will need to disclose. * A Ticket Program service provider can help you think about the decision to disclose and guide you through the process of making the request.
